National Organization for Higher Ed in Prisons Progress Report

Dear Colleagues,
I am writing with an update on the process to form a national organization for higher education in prison. Following the survey submissions and focus group discussions, a meeting was hosted inside Sing Sing Correctional Facility that included more than 60 prospective strategic partners and focused on the future of the organization.
Last month, in St. Louis, a meeting was held with members of the Strategic Planning Committee who are working to finalize a Prospectus document that will serve as the vision for the formation of the national organization. The work of the Strategic Planning Committee was, in part, informed by the input of more than 175 stakeholders who completed surveys and participated in focus groups and the reports from the Visioning Workshop in Phoenix (March, 2016) and the Strategic Partners Workshop at Sing Sing (August, 2016).
The attached Report on the Strategic Partners Workshop has been distributed to all meeting participants and we encourage you to share it within your network and with program partners. Additionally, attached to this email is a document that charts the strategic planning process.
The committee looks forward to sharing the finalized Prospectus in advance of the Higher Education in Prisons conference in November and to presenting the work of this year-long process in Nashville. In the meantime, your feedback and comments are greatly appreciated!
